History of Taylor Marine Centers

Taylor Marine Center Milford

In 1972 father and son Sterling and Doug Van Rees purchased the Milford location of Taylor Marine Center. At the time both the Grady-White and Boston Whaler companies were just starting to find a niche in what later would become their trademarks and keys to their success – overbuilt, extremely safe, and high quality boats for the fisherman and the family.

Sterling and Doug recognized the integrity with the manufacturers and their management that they felt matched the quality they wanted in their dealership. At the time 21 feet was the largest both of the companies produced and like Taylor Marine Center, all of the companies would grow to become examples to the industry of superior quality and superior customer service.

Doug’s brother, Skip joined he and Sterling in 1976 and later in 1986 Doug’s son, Dirk came on board to add the 3rd generation of Van Rees’s. Over the years as Grady-White and Boston Whaler have improved and expanded, Taylor Marine Center has done the same. To better serve all customers on the Peninsula we purchased a second location, Taylor Marine Center II in Ocean City, MD in August of 2004.

For now going on 38 years the Van Rees family and the crew at Taylor Marine Center have had the simple philosophy to sell only the highest quality product, price our equipment competitively and strive to exceed our customer’s expectations with regard to service. We believe it’s been the hallmark of our success and the reason so many of our customers come back to us over and over again as their boating needs change.
